ID:GB1796_1999_116_1_IIIDESCRIPTION:Theodore Napier was born in Melbourne, to Scottish parents, in 1845. He came to Scotland in 1859 to complete his high school education and study for a degree in civil engineering. He returned to Australia, for health reasons, in 1865, spending five years studying medicine.
He maintained an interest in his parents' birthplace and regularly wore highland dress. In 1891, he formed the Victorian Scottish Home Rule Association. In 1920, he gifted nine-and-a-half acres of the Strathmore area of Essendon, Victoria, on the condition it be kept free of buildings. This became known as Napier Park.
