ID:AB_INVTOWNHOUSE07_63DESCRIPTION:This painting of 'Queen Anne and her Ladies' hangs in Inverness Town House on the staircase, to the left of the landing. The artist is unknown but it is thought to have been painted in the eighteenth century.
Queen Anne was born in 1665, the second daughter of James II and VII. She was Queen of Great Britain and Ireland, the last of the Stuart Monarchs, from 1602 until her death in 1714.
The painting was presented to the town in 1893 by Sir William Augustus Fraser of Leadclune and Morar, Baronet (1826-1898). Sir William was a politician and author. His family were descended from the second son of Hugh Fraser, first Lord Lovat, but apart from occasional visits, Sir William's connection with the Highlands was purely titular.PLACENAME:InvernessCREATOR (AV):unknownSOURCE:Am BaileCOLLECTION:Inverness Town House 2007Asset ID:438KEYWORDS:
