ID:HC_PLANNING_06_004_0604DESCRIPTION:In 1619 the 12th Thane of Cawdor, Sir John Campbell, was returning from Islay when his boat was caught in a storm. He prayed to God that if he was spared he would build a new church in Cawdor to be more accessible than the existing parish church. He was spared and Cawdor Parish Church was built. The original building was T-shaped but this was extended in 1829-30 to the cross-shaped church which still stands. The interior was completely remodelled in 1904.
Cawdor Parish Church was thrown into the spotlight in 2009 when Mark Owen, of band Take That, was married in the church.PLACENAME:CawdorDISTRICT:Nairn (landward)OLD COUNTY/PARISH:NAIRN: CawdorCREATOR (AV):T.
