ID:PC_HRS_LOCOMOTIVES_001_012DESCRIPTION:HR No.1 Raigmore, post-1869. Although it is a poor reproduction from a newspaper it is notable for being rare image of the engine without a dome.
This locomotive was built for the Inverness & Nairn Railway by Hawthorns of Leith in October 1855 and had a 2-2-2 wheel arrangement. It was transferred to the newly-formed Highland Railway in 1865. The HR rebuilt it in 1869 with a 2-4-0 wheel arrangement and worked it until 1873.
It was named Raigmore after Raigmore Estate, which belonged to Eneas W MacKintosh, one of the directors of the Inverness & Nairn.PLACENAME:unidentifiedSOURCE:Highland Railway SocietyCOLLECTION:Highland Railway Society - Locomotives 1 (pre-1870 classes)Asset ID:24527KEYWORDS:
