ID: PC_HRS_STATIONS_001_709 DESCRIPTION: A very ealry view of the locomotive shed at Helmsdale. It has a peaked roof, as opposed to the rounded roof shown on later photographs. Helmsdale was formally opened on 16 May 1871 (although trains didn't start running officially until 19 June) and was the Highland Railway's northern terminus for three years until the line was extended in July 1874. Although the station is still open it lost its goods facilities in January 1984.
