ID:PC_JACKWATSON_022DESCRIPTION:A photograph containing a black and white view up Loch Maree, in Wester Ross. Measuring 20 km in length and with a maximum width of 4 km, it is Scotlands fourth largest fresh-water loch. Its name is a translation of the Gaelic, Loch Ma-ruibhe, after the Irish Saint Maol Rubha, who founded the monastery at Applecross in 672. The ruins of a chapel and graveyard on Isle Maree are believed to have been the saint's hermitage for a number of years.
Loch Maree is nestled amongst some of Scotland's most spectacular scenery and is bordered on its north shore by Slioch, and Beinn Eighe to the south.PLACENAME:Loch MareeDISTRICT:GairlochOLD COUNTY/PARISH:ROSS: GairlochCREATOR (AV):Jack WatsonPERIOD:2000sSOURCE:Jack WatsonCOLLECTION:Jack Watson PhotographyAsset ID:28817KEYWORDS:
