Cuillin from Bracadale

Cuillin from Bracadale

ID: PC_JMSTRACHAN_016 DESCRIPTION: The Cuillin Ridge is a mountain ridge in the south of Skye. The main ridge is often referred to as the Black Cuillin because of the dark colour of the basalt and gabbro rock which make up the mountains. Their jagged edges are similar to those found in the Rockies or the Alps (though without the height) and the ridge is acknowledged to include some of the most challenging mountains in Britain. The highest peak is Sgurr Alasdair which reaches a height of 993m (3258ft). Legend has it that the name, Cuillin, is derived from the Irish hunter Cu Chulainn who is said to have made the journey from Ireland to Skye in two strides.
