ID:PC_TAYLOR_SKYE2009_14DESCRIPTION:A view, taken on 14 August 2009, of Garsbheinn to Sgurr na Stri from Elgol, on the west coast of Skye.
Both Garsbheinn (2,934 feet) on the left and Sgurr na Stri (1647 feet) on the right, are located within the Black Cuillins. Sgurr na Stri, although diminutive in height, is considered one of the most spectacular points for viewing the Cuillin Ridge.
The Cuillin mountains on Skye can be categorized into two groups: the Black or 'true' Cuillins; and the Red Cuillins. The Black Cuillins are higher and include Skye's highest peaks, including Sgurr Alasdair at 3255 feet. They are primarily formed from basalt and gabbro and contain all of the islands twelve Munros. The Red Cuillins are composed mainly of granite and their highest point is Glamaig, one of the island's two Corbetts.PLACENAME:ElgolDISTRICT:SkyeOLD COUNTY/PARISH:INVERNESS: StrathCREATOR (AV):Andrew TaylorDATE OF IMAGE:14 August 2009PERIOD:2000sSOURCE:Andrew TaylorAsset ID:30120KEYWORDS:
