London Midland and Scottish Railway Identification Card

ID: PC_WD_WS_015 DESCRIPTION: This identification card was used by William Shand during World War 2 when he worked as a clerk for the London Midland & Scottish Railway Company (LMS). The LMS was created in 1923 by the forced 'Grouping' of over 300 separate railway companies into just four. One of the smaller companies which became part of the LMS was the Highland Railway, which operated the Highland Main Line, the Kyle of Lochalsh Line and the Far North Line. In 1948 the LMS and the other three large companies were nationalised and became part of British Railways.
