The Territorial Army is a part of the British Army and is mostly composed of part-time, volunteer soldiers. The original purpose of the TA was for home defence but over time there has been an increasing focus on providing support for the regular army. The majority of TA soldiers also hold down a day job which is protected by law if their unit is mobilised.
