Lochiel and the Seer

Lochiel and the Seer

ID: QZP40_223_P081 DESCRIPTION: Seers were people believed to have been gifted with second sight. Some believed this gift to be hereditary and some believed it to be random. It is said that Highland Chiefs consulted seers about their fortunes in battle. In a poem, 'Lochiel's Warning' by Thomas Campbell, 'Gentle' Donald Cameron of Lochiel consults a seer about his joining Bonnie Prince Charlie during the '45 Rising. The seer warns Lochiel about the disaster to come at Culloden but Lochiel is determined to go.
