ID: QZP40_CARD_0169 DESCRIPTION: View of Glen Mama, near Arisaig in Lochaber. In 1901, a railway viaduct was built here, spanning the head of Loch nan Uamh, between Arisaig and Lochailort. It was constructed as part of the West Highland Railway. Legend tells that a horse and cart fell into the central pier when the viaduct was being built. This was confirmed by scans during 2001. It is believed that it is at Glen Mama that Prince Charles Edward Stuart first landed in Scotland, in 1745. On 19 August, by the shores of Loch nan Uamh, he made his way to Loch Sheil and Glenfinnan to meet with 12,000 Highlanders, in order to begin the uprising PLACENAME: Arisaig OLD COUNTY/PARISH: INVERNESS CREATOR (AV): J Valentine & Co.
