ID:QZP40_CARD_0556DESCRIPTION:Moonlight over the Torridon Mountains from Carn Dearg.
Carn Dearg, meaning red rock, is situated on a rocky promontory on the northern shore of Loch Gairloch, looking towards Eilean Horrisdale and the Torridon Mountains. This former Victorian shooting lodge was donated by Mrs Mary Ogilvie to the Scottish Youth Hostel Association in 1931. It opened as a hostel on 13 May 1932.
In the background are the mountains of Torridon. This remote area of spectacular scenery lies between Loch Maree and Loch Torridon. The mountains are formed of Torridonian sandstone and some contain white quartzite which can give the impression of snow. Several of the peaks rise to over 3300 feet (1000 metres
