Carn Dearg, meaning red rock, is situated on a rocky promontory on the northern shore of Loch Gairloch, looking towards Eilean Horrisdale and the Torridon Mountains. This former Victorian shooting lodge was donated by Mrs Mary Ogilvie to the Scottish Youth Hostel Association in 1931.
