ID:QZP40_CARD_0691DESCRIPTION:Aultbea is a small, friendly community lying along the shores of Loch Ewe, Wester Ross.
During World War II, Aultbea became an important naval base when Loch Ewe was used as a strategic assembly point for convoys before they left for the dangerous route to Scandinavia and Russia. It was from here that the great convoys set off for Murmansk, West Africa and North America. The Aultbea Hotel is fondly remembered by those who survived and still come to visit with their stories of drinking beer from jam jars, due to wartime rationing and shortages.
