ID:QZP40_CARD_1366DESCRIPTION:The Morefield Hotel on the way out of Ullapool heading north. Although now surrounded by houses, it once stood on its own overlooking Loch Broom.
The village of Ullapool is situated on the northern shore of Loch Broom. It began in 1788 as a planned village, designed for the British Fisheries Society by Thomas Telford. Although the herring fishing industry declined in the 19th century, Ullapool continues to thrive because of its harbour. Today it is the terminus of the car ferry service from Stornoway and a popular tourist centre.PLACENAME:UllapoolDISTRICT:LochbroomOLD COUNTY/PARISH:ROSS: LochbroomSOURCE:Highland LibrariesCOLLECTION:Highland Libraries' Postcard CollectionAsset ID:33292KEYWORDS:
