Kyle of Lochalsh from Kyleakin, Isle of Skye

ID: QZP40_CARD_2262 DESCRIPTION: The Lochalsh Hotel on the left of the photograph is barely recognisable as the old Station Hotel, and prior to that a shooting lodge. The village of Kyle too has expanded over the years, gradually spreading from the coast over the rocky hills behind. A ferry has just left the slipway below the Hotel making its way across Kyle Akin towards Skye. These purpose built vessels capable of carrying several vehicles at a time, provided a much speedier and more comfortable service than the original rowing boats and motor launches which used to ply the route PLACENAME: Kyle of Lochalsh DISTRICT: South West Ross OLD COUNTY/PARISH: ROSS: Lochalsh PERIOD: 1950s; 1960s SOURCE: Highland Libraries COLLECTION: Highland Libraries' Postcard Collection Asset ID: 34162 KEYWORDS:
