ID:QZP40_CARD_2269DESCRIPTION:Taken from the mainland across the Kyle, part of the village of Kyleakin is strung out along the shore, with Beinn na Caillich looming behind. The wooden pier which extends down the beach and some distance into the sea, was built to enable the P.S. Glencoe to dock, as the small harbour out of shot on the left, was unsuitable. The pier itself proved unsatisfactory at low tide and gradually fell into disuse, the last remnants being removed in the 1920s. The King's Arms Hotel can be seen on the extreme right of the photograph. The hotel was opened in 1900, constructed from two adjoining buildings dating from earlier in the 19th centuryPLACENAME:KyleakinDISTRICT:SkyeOLD COUNTY/PARISH:INVERNESS: StrathPERIOD:1910sSOURCE:Highland LibrariesCOLLECTION:Highland Libraries' Postcard CollectionAsset ID:34169KEYWORDS:
