Set in a long deep hollow created thousands of years ago by glacial action, the loch has a spectacular setting admired by the many visitors who trek here from Sligachan or Camusunary, and by the less adventurous who approach by boat from Elgol. Sir Walter Scott, and the painter J.M.W.
