Armadale, Isle of Skye

Armadale, Isle of Skye

ID: QZP40_CARD_2346 DESCRIPTION: This postcard features scenes from Sleat, often referred to as the 'Garden of Skye', although it's lush greenery and woodlands are not well displayed here. The pier at Armadale has been substantially upgraded over the years and provides a popular and well used ferry route from Mallaig on the mainland. North of Armadale lie the ruins of Knock Castle, or Caisteal Camus, held by the MacLeods until the early 15th century, then taken over by the MacDonalds of Sleat. Just north is Isle Ornsay, or Eilean Iarmain, once a major herring port. PLACENAME: Sleat DISTRICT: Skye OLD COUNTY/PARISH: INVERNESS: Sleat CREATOR (AV): J Valentine & Co.
