The outer perimeter wall dates from the 13th Century, the Keep with its dungeon dug into the rock itself and the elegant rooms above it, originate in the 14th. Over the years the castle has been extended and remodelled, including a unification of the outer appearance in Victorian times, with the addition of battlements and turrets.
