ID:QZP40_CARD_2412DESCRIPTION:In the early part of the 19th century, a walled garden was created at Dunvegan Castle in order to grow vegetables. Successive Chiefs attempted to improve the castle surroundings, but poor soil and harsh conditions made the task very difficult. It is only since the 1970s that serious attempts have been made to turn the "romantic wilderness" into an attractive horticultural experience, with the natural waterfall forming a central part of the wild or water garden. The burn continues through the garden, crossed several times by paths and bridges, to drop to the sea in Dunvegan LochPLACENAME:DunveganDISTRICT:SkyeOLD COUNTY/PARISH:INVERNESS: DuirinishDATE OF IMAGE:1933PERIOD:1930sSOURCE:Highland LibrariesCOLLECTION:Highland Libraries' Postcard CollectionAsset ID:34318KEYWORDS:
