ID:QZP40_CARD_2523DESCRIPTION:The figure bottom left is seemingly oblivious to the towering peaks behind him. The image shows clearly the contrasts facing the climber in the Cuillin, with the rock slabs in the foreground changing to loose scree then rugged gabbro. Sgurr Alasdair's peak is actually composed of basalt rather than gabbro, and the steep, airy summit should not be tackled by anyone with a less than good head for heights. Sgurr Alasdair was first climbed in 1873 by the well regarded Skye man Sheriff Alexander Nicolson, and was subsequently named after himPLACENAME:GlenbrittleOLD COUNTY/PARISH:INVERNESSPERIOD:1930s; 1940sSOURCE:Highland LibrariesCOLLECTION:Highland Libraries' Postcard CollectionAsset ID:34430KEYWORDS:
