Sligachan Burn looking to Sgurr nan Gillean, Isle of Skye

ID: QZP40_CARD_2530 DESCRIPTION: Even with the cloud almost obscuring the peaks of Sgurr nan Gillean ridge, there is no diminishing the size and scale of these hills. This photograph is taken from just above where the River Sligachan empties into the loch of the same name. Sgurr nan Gillean dominates the skyline with its distinctive conical shape. At 964m (3165 ft) it is one of the highest Munros in the Cuillin range. The peak was considered impossible to climb until July 1836, when Professor James Forbes convinced local forester Duncan MacIntyre to guide him to the summit PLACENAME: Sligachan OLD COUNTY/PARISH: INVERNESS PERIOD: 1940s SOURCE: Highland Libraries COLLECTION: Highland Libraries' Postcard Collection Asset ID: 34436 KEYWORDS:
