Sgurr na Gillean from Sligachan

Sgurr na Gillean from Sligachan

ID: QZP40_CARD_2533 DESCRIPTION: The gullies below Sgurr nan Gillean and Am Baisteir still holding the last of the spring snow. Many a walker and climber have begun their trek to the ridge and on into the Cuillin, from this vantage point. The distinctive cone of Sgurr nan Gillean rises high above the burn at the starting point for walking, and with each step across the bare moorland, the true grandeur of the hill rising from a broad base, becomes apparent. For years Sgurr nan Gillean was considered impossible to climb until in July 1836 when Professor James Forbes, with local forester Duncan MacIntyre, made it to the summit PLACENAME: Sligachan OLD COUNTY/PARISH: INVERNESS PERIOD: 1910s SOURCE: Highland Libraries COLLECTION: Highland Libraries' Postcard Collection Asset ID: 34439 KEYWORDS:
