Loch Inchard, Ben Stack and Arkle from Kinlochbervie
ID:QZP40_CARD_3739DESCRIPTION:Loch Inchard sits just south of Cape Wrath and is one of the most northerly sea lochs on the west coast of Scotland. It is well known for its fishing port of Kinlochbervie, which is based at Loch Inchard and the adjacent Loch Clash. A salmon fishing operation runs from Loch Clash, while at Loch Inchard shellfish are farmed.
Arkle is situated in the far north-west corner of the Scottish Highlands. Like its sister Foinaven, the mountain is made up of glistening white Cambrian quartzite, laid down around 530 million years ago on an uneven basement of much older Lewisian gneiss.
Ben Stack is a mountain in the county of Sutherland. It is 721 metres (2365 feet) high. It is located southeast of Laxford Bridge and northwest of Loch More and the town of Lairg, along the A838 road, and just west of Loch Stack across the A838.
Kinlochbervie is a harbour village in the north west of Sutherland, in the Highland region of Scotland. In 2001 the population was 480.
The majority of local industry is based upon the fishing industry. Although the fleet of ships actually based in Kinlochbervie is rather small, many ships from the East coast of Scotland land their catches in Kinlochbervie.
The dominant feature of the town is the large fish handling depot. From here catches are loaded onto large refrigerated trucks for transport by road throughout Europe. The importance of this link to the outside world to the local economy means that Kinlochbervie has surprisingly good road links, given its remote location and rugged local geography.PLACENAME:KinlochbervieOLD COUNTY/PARISH:SUTHERLANDSOURCE:Highland LibrariesCOLLECTION:Highland Libraries' Postcard CollectionAsset ID:35575KEYWORDS:
