Hotel Invergarry

ID: QZP40_CARD_5627 DESCRIPTION: The Hotel, Invergarry. Originally a stage coach inn, the Invergarry Hotel was built by Edward Ellice, who had bought the Glengarry and Glenquoich estates from the bankrupt chiefs of Clan MacDonell. John Anderson, a friend of Robert Burns from Ayrshire, retired to this small village on the west side of Loch Ness where his daughter had married the innkeeper. After a visit here Burns wrote the poem 'John Anderson, my Jo' Anderson was a carpenter to trade and reputedly made Burns' coffin.
