ID:QZP40_CARD_5959DESCRIPTION:St Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Arisaig dates from the mid-nineteenth century. It replaced an earlier chapel which had become too small for its congregation. In the graveyard to the south are the remains of the old parish church and burial ground known as St Maelrubha's Chapel or the ancient church of Cill Mha'ru or Kilmory. Alasdair MacMaighstir Alasdair, the great Gaelic poet, is buried in an unknown grave here. A clock on the south face of the church tower was erected in his memory.PLACENAME:ArisaigDISTRICT:LochaberOLD COUNTY/PARISH:INVERNESS: Arisaig and MoidartSOURCE:Highland LibrariesCOLLECTION:Highland Libraries' Postcard CollectionAsset ID:37596KEYWORDS:
