This area of the town centre was reconstructed during the early 1960s and the buildings seen here were demolished and replaced by modern concrete structures. Developments in the vicinity of Bridge Street during the late 1950s and early 1960s included the demolition of the old Ness suspension Bridge and the construction of a replacement concrete structure. Buildings known as Castle Tolmie, on Castle Road, were also demolished to make way for the new bridge and Exchange Place was reconstructed in order to widen Bridge Street to town centre traffic.PLACENAME:InvernessOLD COUNTY/PARISH:INVERNESS: Inverness and BonaPERIOD:1950sSOURCE:Highland LibrariesCOLLECTION:Views of Inverness, 1950s/1960sAsset ID:37865KEYWORDS:
