ID:QZP40_MELDRUM_085DESCRIPTION:The County Buildings on Ardross Street/Glenurquhart Road, Inverness were built as Inverness College, a public school for day pupils and boarders from 1873 to c.1914. During this time it was also known as Inverness Collegiate School, The Boys' College and Northern Counties Collegiate School.
After wartime occupation by the Admiralty, the buildings were bought and presented to the County Education Authority in 1921 as Inverness Royal Academy War Memorial Hostel. They became known as the County Buildings in the early 1930s when the hostel moved to Heatherfield and Inverness County Council began moving several of its departments into the building.
It remained as the headquarters of Inverness-shire County Council until local government re-organisation in 1974 when the much-extended building became the HQ of Highland Regional Council.
