ID:QZP99_93134_05_06DESCRIPTION:There are many abandoned settlements around the island which were left empty after the clearances and the decline of fishing. Riskbuie or Riasg Buidhe is one such settlement which was inhabited until 1918 but which now lies in ruins.
The island of Colonsay is part of the Inner Hebrides off the west coast of Scotland. To the north lies the island of Mull and to the south are Islay and Jura. At low tide Colonsay is joined to the tiny island of Oransay and together the islands are about 10 miles long and about two miles wide. The island has been owned by the MacDonalds, the Campbells and the MacNeills and was bought by the first Lord Strathcona in 1905. There is evidence of early settlement on Colonsay including parts of Iron Age forts and duns.
