ID:QZP99_93154_09_07DESCRIPTION:The woman on the right is using a Saxony spinning wheel while the other has a pair of wooden boards to disentangle the wool fibres, a process known as 'carding'. The Saxony wheel is the type still used for hand-spinning. It replaced the the muckle ('large') wheel, which was very basic in design and required more effort from the user.
