ID:QZP99_94052_09_12DESCRIPTION:Findhorn is a village in Moray, situated on the eastern side of the sandy Findhorn Bay.
The original village of Findhorn was located a mile northwest of its current site. During the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, the present village was established due to the original one being gradually overcome by the sea. Findhorn was the chief port of Moray during the seventeenth century, and between the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries was the centre of a sizeable fishing industry.
Findhorn was also the terminus of a short, 3 mile long branch line from Kinloss which operated from 18 April 1860 to 1 February 1962.
The Findhorn Foundation is located to the south of Findhorn village. Established in the 1960s, the Findhorn Foundation is a community centred on spiritual education, and an associated ecovillage has formed alongside it.
