The island of Colonsay is in the Inner Hebrides, nine miles (14.5km) west of Jura and 12 miles (19.3km) south of the Ross of Mull. The island itself measures eight miles (12.9km) from north to south and has a maximum breadth of three miles (4.8km) and is linked by a tidal causeway to the island of Oronsay. Both islands contain a number of ecclesiastical remains, standing stones, and sculptured crosses.
Colonsay is also noted for its plants, seabirds and wildlife with 150 species of resident or migrant birds and over 500 species of flowers.
