ID:QZP99_97193_12_01DESCRIPTION:Machrihanish lies on the shore of Machrihanish Bay, five miles west of Campbeltown. Salt was once manufactured at Machrihanish by evaporating sea water and the place became known as 'Salt Pans' or 'Pans'. The cottages in this photograph had a pane of glass in their windows which could be pushed inwards to deliver letters and parcels.
