Newtonmore Camanachd was founded in 1895 and is one of the most successful clubs in the history of the sport. At the time of writing (2010) they have won the sports premier competition, the Camanachd Cup, on 28 occasions.
In the 1920s it became clear that there were sufficient number of players in Oban to warrant the creation of a second club (Oban Camanachd had been formed in 1889) and so Oban Celtic were formed in 1927. They have won the Camanachd Cup on six occasions (as of 2009), most recently in 1963.
