Dr David Wallace was the GP in Ullapool for many years and a leading Free Mason in the local lodge. His wife wrote a local guide book about Ullapool. Two of their four children died in World War Two - their son John while a student pilot with the RAF, and daughter Agnes, who was a nurse on the SS "City of Benares" when it was torpedoed in 1940. The ship had been evacuating British children to safety in Canada.
