ID:TPYF_2009_PART13DESCRIPTION:These interviews were conducted by school pupils as part of a 'Their Past Your Future' project.
Iain Macleod, Margaret Beaton, Duncan Finlayson and Marion Fleming speak about all the international people who came to the Highlands during World War 2. They speak about the internment of Italians living in the Highlands and how the younger members of Italian families weren't always interned. Various army people, and sometimes their families, were billeted with local families. There were Norwegian troops doing some training near Strathpeffer and they were billeted with local families too. There were Italian and German prisoners of war in Highlands and many of them came to work in the local communities to help in skilled work or in farm work.DATE OF RECORDING:2009PERIOD:2000sCOLLECTION:Their Past, Your Future 2009Asset ID:41481KEYWORDS:
