Cameron of Lochiel to Lady Hermione Cameron, 11 November 1914 (2 of 2)
ID:GB232_CL_B_LETTER_030BDESCRIPTION:This letter was written by Donald Walter Cameron of Lochiel at Maida Barracks, Aldershot, to Lady Hermione Cameron at 4 Carlton Terrace, Edinburgh on 11 November 1914. The following is a transcript of the parts of the letter which relate to the war:
...& Eustace Crawley [Major Eustace Crawley 1868-1914]. Who will be left is the question? Thank goodness Malise is all right so far [Lord Douglas Malise Graham 1883 – 1974, Lady Hermione’s brother]. Angus Mackintosh is I believe going on well [Captain Angus Alexander Mackintosh of Mackintosh, younger, 1885-1918; wounded at Ypres in 1914].
I have not seen General Fergusson lately [General Sir Charles Fergusson, Bart. 1865 – 1951] but he is to lecture again on Thursday.
Here there is very little news of any sort. I went to tea with Lady Hunter on Sunday. Lord Dunedin [Andrew Graham Murray, Baron Dunedin, later 1st Viscount Dunedin 1849 – 1942, politican and judge and former Secretary for Scotland] was there, also Sir Edward & Lady Carson [Sir Edward Henry Carson, later Baron Carson 1854-1935, lawyer and Irish Unionist politician, best remembered for his part in the trial of Oscar Wilde] and Sir Philip Trotter [Colonel Sir Philip Durham Trotter 1844-1918].
I hear the new Battalion comes down here on the 21st.
Well I don’t know I have any more news. With my best of love…DATE OF IMAGE:11 November 1914PERIOD:1910sSOURCE:Lochaber Archive CentreCOLLECTION:The World War One Letters of Colonel Donald Cameron of LochielAsset ID:43283KEYWORDS:
