Cameron of Lochiel to Lady Hermione Cameron, 6 June 1915
ID:GB232_CL_B_LETTER_054DESCRIPTION:This letter was written by Donald Walter Cameron of Lochiel, in France, to Lady Hermione Cameron at Buchanan Castle, Drymen on 6 June 1915. The following is a transcript of the parts which relate to the war:
Just a line to let you know I am very well. I got your letter from St Andrews posted in Stirling/ I saw Malise [Lord Douglas Malise Graham 1883 - 1974, Lady Hermione’s brother] Friday & was to have dined with him last night but we were ordered to march & we made a very long march right through the middle of the night. We left at 7 pm & got in soon after 4 am. Very tired, I suppose we marched about 22 miles. We stopped for an hour about midnight & had some refreshments. I don’t know myself the idea of this move or what we have been brought here for. I got into bed about 6 am & slept soundly till lunch time 1 pm. I have often wondered if you ever sent Sir Archie Hunter [General Sir Archibald Hunter 1856 – 1936] & General Ewart [Lieutenant General Sir John Spencer Ewart 1861–1930] that album of photos Hugh sent off some dirty washing yesterday which I hope arrived safely. Please send some clean washing in return. If you can send any cakes or comestibles they will be much appreciated. Plain cakes, not Madeira or currant.DATE OF IMAGE:6 June 1915PERIOD:1910sSOURCE:Lochaber Archive CentreCOLLECTION:The World War One Letters of Colonel Donald Cameron of LochielAsset ID:43474KEYWORDS:
