Our Story: Closing the queer history gap in the Highlands - Exhibition Image 2 (Family Portrait)

ID: GB232_D1748_002 DESCRIPTION: For this piece, each person made their own ‘self-portrait’ collage, allowing for either realistic or abstract self-expression. All the portraits were digitally collated to create a ‘family portrait’ showing the weird and wonderful collage creations all together to show the diversity of the LGBTQ+ community across the Highlands. Exhibition Overview is an intergenerational legacy project which seeks to gather and permanently archive stories of the LGBTQ+ community in the Highlands and Islands. In 2022, as part of Scotland's Year of Stories, we invited members of the LGBTQ+ community to their local Archive Centre to share their experiences of living in the Highlands. At these gathering sessions across the Highlands, stories were collected, recorded and submitted to the Highland Archive Service, creating the first archives that represent Highland LGBTQ+ voices, ensuring a lasting legacy and preservation of LGBTQ+ experiences in the region. We continue to be keen to record interviews (either in person or online) with members of the community living in, or connected to, the Highlands. We would also love to receive written life stories/thoughts and documents or photographs which add to the story of the LGBTQ+ community in the Highlands. If you’re willing to share our story with us, or you would like to find out more, please contact the Highland Archive Service on archives@highlifehighland.com or the Engagement team at Eden Court Highlands DATE OF IMAGE: 2022 PERIOD: 2020s SOURCE: Highland Archive Service COLLECTION: Our Story: Closing the Queer History Gap in the Highlands Asset ID: 49752 KEYWORDS:
