ID:PC_GLENGARRY_ELLICE1_10DESCRIPTION:A print by H.A. Strong from 1884. It shows the interior of Fort Garry, a trading post of the Hudson’s Bay Company established in 1822 and named after the Company’s deputy governor, Nicholas Garry. Although it played a minor role in the trading of furs, it was an important administrative centre.
After the establishment of the city of Winnipeg in 1873, the place name Fort Garry was no longer used to refer to the area, though it lives on through various local business and institutions.
