Donald Riddell (1908 - 1992) from Kirkhill near Inverness, was a master fiddler, composer, and fiddle-maker. He was also a Pipe Major in the Lovat Scouts. His pupils included Duncan Chisholm, Bruce MacGregor and Iain MacFarlane. Donald was influenced in both his fiddle playing and his fiddle making by Alexander Battan Grant, fiddle player, maker, composer and inventor of a world famous fishing rod known as the Grant Vibration Rod. His round violin, or Rondello, was said to have sounded as clear as the human voice singing. This image may be available to purchase.
